Childhood’s Best Friends — Why Photos Like These Matter
Adora and Toby with their little humans at Summit Park in Victoria BC in April.
This spring, I had the joy of photographing two beautiful dogs, Adora and Toby, with the little humans they share their days with. The session took place on a sunny afternoon when there was already some warmth in the breeze and the grass brilliantly green and lush. It was a pretty setting for what I really captured: the connection between the kids and their dogs.
Watching them play, snuggle, and simply be together reminded me how quickly childhood passes—but also how deeply our kids remember the animals who grew up beside them. These dogs aren’t just pets. They’re playmates, protectors, secret keepers, and best friends.
That’s why photographing children with their dogs is one of my favourite things to do. Because these relationships deserve to be remembered—not just in passing stories, but in framed portraits, heirloom albums, and artwork that brings warmth to your home for years to come.
If you’ve ever caught your child whispering to the family dog or falling asleep curled up next to them, you already know: these moments matter. Let’s preserve them, beautifully.
